Chocobo Racing
In Gold Saucer, one of the famous games is the chocobo racing game. As the name of the game implies, you race your chocobo against other chocobo. Actually, you can either bet or race itself. If you just wanna bet, talk to the girl in the middle counter. And if you wanna race, talk to Ester, the girl to the left of the counter just beside the door.
Anyone can bet in the chocobo races. Your goal is to bet on the winning pair of chocobos from the rank you participated in. When betting, you can choose any rank you want to bet on. The costs for each bet in the different rank varies. For one bet, Rank C costs 100gil, Rank B 200 gil, Rank A 300 gil and Rank S 500gil. You are given 15 choice for the six racing chocobos. And from this 15 choices, you can only pick three choices among them. Use O for adding and removing a choice. You can also see the chocobos' stats in the right side of the screen. Switch between chocobos using the L1 and R1 button.
Now if you have your very own chocobo, which is easy to catch, you can actually participate in the race itself. If you wanna enter the race, talk to Ester, and she'll give you some instructions in participating in the races. All chocobos start in rank C and move up the ranks to B, A, then the final rank, S. The same chocobo then have to win three races for it to advance to the different ranks. It doesn't count if you win in the long course or the short course. So, I'd recommend that you just take the short course. If you're racing a green or a yellow chocobo, you have to look out for the space section in the short course and the waterfall section in the long course. Chocobos usually slow down at these sections except for the blue, black and the gold chocobo. When racing and Tifa or Cid is in your party, they would sometimes butt in and beg Cloud to let them ride. This is your chance to see Tifa ride a chocobo, so go for it!
Also when you reach rank A and rank S, you could race against Joe and Teioh, the black chocobo. Teioh would always have higher stats than your chocobo. Teioh's top speed is higher by the first two digits of yours. So if your speed is 130, teioh would be +13 speed higher. His stamina would always be 25% higher than yours, too. So you would think he's unbeatable. Actually no. He's just a tough opponent when it comes to chocobo racing. All you need is strategy, which I won't be giving out here! ^_~
When you win either in the race or in betting, your winning card would have a corresponding item. You may get this item or you may exchange it for GP instead. Remember, the better the rank you participated in the better the items.
